First, you need to make sure that your rib has sufficient amount of marbling which would classify it as prime rib.
Then, the traditional way of preparing prime rib is seasoning it with salt and pepper. Be generous, like a lot generous with your salt and pepper and get a good amount of it on the prime rib. You can use other spice rubs. Leave the rub on for at least two hours prior to cooking. Or leave it on overnight.
Refrigerate it overnight and once it is at room temperature, leave the prime rib bone side down in the baking tray and shove it in the oven. Using a thermometer probe, prick inside the roast and when it hits medium rare, your roast it ready. Do not let the juices drip away. Collect them and make a jus or glaze out of them.

So the first thing you need to do is place your prime rib on even ground. Take the knife, hold your prime rib by the bones and from the bone surface, draw in the knife little by little.
