And another common, well renowned and enjoyed thing all around the world is a prime rib.

Prime ribs are eaten all across the world even if they are served with different sides or glazed in different sauces or cooked in different ways but they are enjoyed and devoured all across the globe. And it is not only for the high and rich flavor profile of this red meat but also because of the nutritional content.

And when it comes to cooking this fine piece of meat, many fail but many succeed too in reaching the level of perfection. But mastering the art of cooking a prime rib is not all, being able to carve it like pros is one thing too. And this is what we will talk about today. How to cut and carve the king prime rib and which knife is the best in the job for it.

What is Prime Rib? What is the nutritional content of prime rib?

To clear a few ambiguities; first of all, prime rib is not a steak, its roast. Secondly, yes it is exactly like the ribs you eat at a steakhouse but there is a tiny catch and you will soon find out about it.

So basically prime is cut from the primal rib of the cow which is one of the nine prime cuts. It is actually bones, the ribs, and the roast beef. You will be asking yourself, that is exactly what my ribs are then what sets these two apart? Well, the truth is, they both are the same except prime rib is taken from more well fed and less mobile cows as compared to your standing rib roast. The difference between standing rib roast and prime rib is that of marbling. Marbling is the blubber or fat layer or the white specks and layers you see on meat. The more the marbling there is on a piece of meat, the better it is.

Hence this is why the rib roast that has most marbling is named as prime rib and the rest are called standing rib roast due to the way they are cooked. And the rib eye is actually a modified version of this which actually just the roast and not the bone that is the rib.

So yes, this is what sets apart a succulent prime rib. This marbling layer makes the prime rib more tender, more flavorful and moister. So you can just serve it up with mashed potatoes and a jus made from its own fat and that will do for the next family dinner.

Like all meat cuts, prime rib is a major source of protein. Protein is necessary to eliminate anemia as hemoglobin is made from it. It also contains vitamins and minerals like zinc which make your immune system stronger and thus helping you to be immune to sickness and illness and water which is necessary for hydration.

It can make you feel satisfied for long hours and eliminate the need to eat again.
Hence, we think it is safe to say that along with flavor, prime rib gives you plenty of health too.

Obviously, eating in controlled amounts would be advised as too much of anything is bad.

How to make the best prime rib? How to carve Prime rib?

There is a myriad of ways of preparing prime rib but here is a staple and traditional and conventional way of preparing prime rib.

First, you need to make sure that your rib has sufficient amount of marbling which would classify it as prime rib.

Then, the traditional way of preparing prime rib is seasoning it with salt and pepper. Be generous, like a lot generous with your salt and pepper and get a good amount of it on the prime rib. You can use other spice rubs. Leave the rub on for at least two hours prior to cooking. Or leave it on overnight.

Refrigerate it overnight and once it is at room temperature, leave the prime rib bone side down in the baking tray and shove it in the oven. Using a thermometer probe, prick inside the roast and when it hits medium rare, your roast it ready. Do not let the juices drip away. Collect them and make a jus or glaze out of them.

Now onto carving. So for this, you need a large, good sized carving knife.

So the first thing you need to do is place your prime rib on even ground. Take the knife, hold your prime rib by the bones and from the bone surface, draw in the knife little by little. Draw it in, until the roast is off the bones. Be sure to leave almost zero meat on the bones. Once it’s off, cut it deftly into equal pieces and top with gravy you prepared!

When buying the prime rib knife, make sure the knife is at least 20 to 25 inches in length.
