How to prepare Brussel sprouts?

It is important for people to know how to cut and clean Brussel sprouts. First of all you need to chop off all the buds from the stock of Brussel sprouts. The surface leaves that are loose and dirty also need to be chopped off to clean the Brussel sprouts.

The buds you cut earlier need to be of similar sizes if you want to cook them properly. Once you have cut and cleaned the Brussel sprouts you can prepare them by boiling, steaming, frying etc.

Brussel sprouts are mostly roasted because by roasting you get a decent flavor out of it. Also, you can add toppings such as mustard, parmesan cheese, pepper etc.

The growth of Brussel sprouts varies according to the temperature. The temperature at which Brussel sprouts have the highest growth is 15 to 18 degree Celsius. The fields are harvested within 3 to 6 months of planting them.

You can either cut the whole stalk at one time or pick each sprout individually which is time-consuming, or you can use the harvester which is efficient and even faster.

The commercial yield of Brussel sprouts equal nearly nine hundred grams, normally a stalk has around 1.5kgs.

Brussel sprouts are mostly used in winters. It is at the center at the Christmas dinner, this is kind of a tradition to have Brussel sprouts at the Christmas dinner.

How to clean Brussel sprouts?

There are three steps to clean your Brussel sprouts which are as follows;

1. Removing sprouts from the stalk

The first step in cleaning the Brussel sprouts is detaching the sprouts from the stem. Sometimes when you get to see them in the market they are not separated from the stem, looking very bad.

It is just the dirty looking stem and the way sprouts are attached to it that make them look ugly, but there is nothing to worry about, sprouts when cut are very fresh. People usually buy the bigger sprouts and cut them off the stem at home.

Just like the size of sprouts vary, stems also have different sizes and thickness. When you detach the stem to cut sprouts the loose leaves fall off, they are mostly the leaves you yourself have to remove to clean the Brussel sprouts because they are witty and discolored. After this step, you would be left with loose sprouts which you would have to clean further.

2. Cleaning of the loose sprouts

Now that you have separated the sprouts from the stem its time you clean the loose sprouts. For that, you have to take off the upper leaves that are witty and dirty.

Now you have separated the wittiest part of the Brussel sprouts. Next, you need to wash the layers left after removing the upper ones. You should rinse it properly before cutting because if you cut it before washing the inner part will also absorb the dirt. `

If the dirt is absorbed by the inner layers your food will get unhealthy and rather than getting its nutrition you will get sick. It is of sheer importance to take care of such things otherwise it would be of no use.  Your health and safety should always be your first priority.

Also, if you want to make sure that no dirt is left and you have cleaned the Brussel sprouts thoroughly, use cold water and rub each piece individually. Any lingering dirt will also be removed and you can now safely cook and eat without harming your health.

3. Cutting of sprouts

The last step of the three steps to clean Brussel sprouts is the cutting. First think of how you will serve you cooked food, then decide how and in what shape you are going to cut them.

You can peel off their leaves if you want to use them in a salad, or you can boil or roast them without cutting. It depends on how you would like to eat them.

How do people normally cook Brussel sprouts?

You first need to soften the hard leaves of the Brussel sprouts, you can do this in two ways. One way is to rub each leaf softly with a little salt applying on it. Make sure you do not rub it hard, it would tear apart otherwise.

Another way of doing so is chopping off leaves in smaller parts in a form of a shredded slaw. To keep the sprouts from moving around the cutting board, split them the long way and lay them chop side down before meagerly cutting.

Entire sprout can also be thinly chopped which would make more of a slaw but still be very delicious and tasty.

How to serve Brussel sprouts?

A dressing of Brussel sprouts with fatty and self-assured flavors is liked very much. Make sure you have softened the leaves before by massaging each one of them, otherwise the dish would not look presentable. Your food must have lots of olive oil, it makes the dish way better.
